1 Boy, 2 Girls & 11 Cows

Last week between all my busy days, I managed to meet with a lovely woman to help her with her photography.  I suppose it was sort of a two part-mentoring session: One day was a Q&A session and one day was shooting.  I feel funny saying little ole me mentored someone since I’m 100% self-taught with most of my learnings from on-the-job and learning from other photographers.  I wanted her to learn how to shoot manual, learn about lighting and what to look for, and how I set up my camera settings for a photo.  I realized how incredibly scatterbrained I am!!

She mentioned something that I’m sure is common with many of us.  When the lighting is perfect, my photos turn out great.  Well, yeah!  So I purposely took her to a spot with too much sun and harsh conditions.

In addition to her energetic 2-year old son, we brought my girls along as models.  As usual, my girls did not want to be photographed together.

Cameron thinks she’s so cool.
Our session quickly came to a halt when 11 cows came down to say hello, sniff the kids and beg for our attention.  The kids did not know what to think.  Cameron was the first to run down to check them out.
Then Luke.
Then Taylor.  I’m sure Cameron is bossing Taylor around here telling her to not get any closer.  Do cows bite?  Anyone?  Anyone?
This one gave me the stare down.  Then once I snapped his photo…he turned away.  Or is it a she?  I’m so cow illiterate.

This is Taylor’s mean face.  Hmmm.
This is Taylor’s sweet face.

And we finally wrangled Luke.  He doesn’t like to sit, look at the camera, stop playing, or listen to anything we wanted him to do.
But he sure is cute.
I think he knows it.
Cameron wanted to jump in since Luke ran away.  All I had to do to get the cheesy cool smile off her face was talk about her “boyfriend” at school.  Man she got mad at first, then started to giggle and turn red and get all embarrassed.

The girls were ready to go back to the car.  They don’t like more than 10 minutes of photos.

And Luke of course had to chase the girls up the road too.

No Luke, we’re not coming.  Go ahead without us.  Just stay on the sidewalk and go straight to the car.  Ha ha ha.

I had to get a quick photo of my favorite cow.  #45 was gorgeous and had such a sweet face.  Have I ever mentioned that I love living in Chino Hills?

The pic I posted on my blog today I'm pretty sure is the first one of my kid I've shot in manual -it.is.so.hard.!! Sigh...SO much to learn. I love the pic of your 2 girls from behind w/ their arms stretched out, precious.

April 10, 2009 - 6:38 pm Anonymous - How fun was that? My dad grew up on a farm...cows are females. Bulls are male...and often pretty doggone mean. :-)
